My Everyday Makeup Products

Today I’m sharing with you all, the products I use pretty much every time I do my makeup.  My collection is small, and I actually prefer it that way.  Even though I have gotten more into makeup, I still don’t really like putting a lot of stuff on my face, so my process is pretty simplistic.  You might also call this a “products I love” post as well, since these are my go-to’s currently.  Pictured below is everything I use, and I’ll give the names of each product.  Most of these are drugstore products.

1. Revlon Colorstay Liquid Eye Pen:  I just recently bought this, having wanted to try a felt tip liner pen.  I like the precision I have with it, and sometimes I’ll use it in conjunction with my Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner (pictured above the lash glue).  I love both of these products and use them both for doing some nice winged liner.  I think each of these wear for about 16 hours, and I’d say they do exactly what they promise!

2.  Similarly, I have two different eye shadow primers that I use.  One is the Nyx HD EyeShadow Base, and the other is the Urban Decay Original Eye Shadow Primer Potion.  I’m not sure if the Nyx primer is meant to be a dupe for anything, but to me, it’s kind of a dupe for the UD primer.  They’re both about the same consistency and perform very well.  When I can’t figure out where I’ve put one, I use the other, so these get interchanged.

3.  Nyx Eye Shadow Base (white): I use this every time I do my eyes, and layer it over the primer.  I’m sure that’s redundant, but I don’t know, I feel like it works for me and boosts my shadows even more than just primer alone. 🙂

4. NYC City Proof Mascara:  Though this mascara isn’t waterproof (I usually like waterproof mascaras and do own another one that is, also by NYC), I adore it.  It’s a buildable mascara, and I use it all the time.  I build it up when I either don’t feel like wearing falsies so my lashes stand out more, or when I’ve gotten tired of fussing with falsies and give up, hahaha.

5.  NYC City Proof 24 Hr. Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil: I love the eyeliner.  I’m not entirely sure I’d say it lasts 24 hours, but then again, I don’t leave my makeup on for 24 hours.  It does last for a long time, though!  I like it for lining my waterline.  I think it’s a kohl liner.  The only thing I don’t like, is that I can’t seem to sharpen it all that well, but maybe that has to do with my sharpener, I’m not sure.  I’ll have to look and see if there are different types of eyeliner pencil sharpeners.

6.  Ardell Lash Grip Eyelash Adhesive:  Ardell lashes are some of the first I ever used, and I really liked the glue.  Once I’ve gotten my lashes on, if I’ve really gotten them on there good, they stay put without question.

7.  I’ve mentioned this one before, my NYC dark brown eyeliner pencil.  I use this for my brows, only.  I’ve never used it to line my eyes, though that doesn’t mean I might not use it for that someday.  It stays put on my brows, and comes off easily when I take my makeup off.

8.  L.A. Girl PRO.Conceal (in Medium Beige): When I first started watching YouTube videos to learn about makeup and stuff, I heard this product mentioned a LOT.  A lot of people seemed to really like this concealer, so I bought it to try and it is my go-to now, as well.  I use it under my eyes and to conceal any marks from past blemishes on my face.  I also have this in the green color correcting shade, but the beige usually does everything I need.  I’m kind of weird, because I like to put on my concealer before I put on my foundation.  I know a lot of people do it the opposite way, but I’m just kind of backwards like that, hahahaha.  For me it looks better, because then my foundation evens out areas like under my eyes and even though I have makeup on, I don’t really look like I do.

9.  L’Oreal True Match Powder (in Cappuccino): I did a LOT of research about how to pick a foundation.  This is the second one I’ve ever bought, the first being some foundation by Nicka K., and I believe it’s about this color.  These foundations are grouped by undertones.  My undertones seem to be neutral, after trying various tests to figure out what group I might fall in.  I also have this in the liquid, but I don’t use that one as much, it seems darker even though it’s supposed to be the same color.  I’ll have to face the music soon though, I’ve hit pan with the powder and can’t buy more at the moment.  Hopefully I can get used to the liquid.

9.  Hard Candy Fast and Fabulous Makeup Setting Spray: I found this at Walmart recently.  I’ve been wanting to try a setting spray for a long time, and decided to try this one out.  I’m not a good judge of setting sprays and this is my first one, so I can’t say if it’s better than any other sprays out there.  My days usually aren’t very strenuous, so I’d say that it works, my makeup doesn’t wear off.  I guess the real test will come if I’m ever outside on a hot day for a photo shoot or something. 🙂  I only use this when I plan on keeping my makeup on.  Sometimes I just do makeup to try out a look I thought up, and then I’ll take it all off, no sense in wasting precious setting spray, right?

I do own a powder contouring palette and some setting powder by Ben Nye, but I don’t really use them.  I try to practice with the contouring palette from time to time, just to get the hang of it, but it’s been a while since I’ve pulled it out.

One last thing, I do have a face primer, but it’s not really one that I like very much, so I don’t use it anymore, really.  I’ll save my thoughts on that for another post when I talk about some stuff I own that I’m not all that crazy about. Thanks for reading, I’ll see you soon!! ❤

Makeup Improv: Pink, Teal, and Purple eyes and Brows

Recently, I was browsing through Instagram, and I got this overwhelming urge to do some colorful makeup…  And drag my eyebrows into it.  I was borrowing a palette from my friend Jess, it was a holiday palette from Too Faced, called the Everything Nice.  I don’t know what year it was from, but I knew it wasn’t 2016’s, at least.  Here’s what it looks like:

This image came from Google, as I’ve since given Jess her palette back.  But I wanted to try something with the green, magenta, and purple colors on the bottom left of the palette, so I decided to play.  The idea evolved further when I dug up my Morrigan wig, and then I thought “OoOo, I’m going to do some gradient (ombre) brows, too!” And so, I did.  I ended up doing a halo eye, with the pink in my crease, the purple on the inner and outer corners of my lid, and the green in the center of my lid.  I believe I took the gold color above the purple, into my inner corner.  This look can be repeated with any similar shades. But, this was how it turned out!

For my brows, I used the Nyx retractable liner in the color Aqua Green (which I used in my Sailor Neptune look).  I use this liner on my eyebrows any time I wear my Morrigan cosplay, or just any time I wear this wig, period.  But I used the liner at the inner part of my brows, then followed with the purple and pink shadows from the Too Faced palette. The lashes came from ebay, and the lip color is by LA Girl.

I seriously love these eyelashes.  We call it ebay roulette when you order something and have no idea whether it was a good decision or not, and these were a good decision.  Some days, you just need some color to keep you on your toes. The wig was also an ebay roulette purchase, and I couldn’t be happier with it.  It’s one of my favorites!  Even though I don’t have Jess’s palette anymore, I can still do this look again, if I want.  I have another palette that has similar purples and pinks, as well as a single shadow from Colourpop that is similar to the green.  All the world is right when your makeup is pretty and bright!  I don’t know where that came from, random thoughts, hahaha. Aaaaaanyway…  That’s all for now, I’ll be back soon!

How I do My Eyebrows

I get a LOT of compliments on my eyebrows, and it’s funny because I don’t do much to them.  The trend right now for brows is super defined and flawless, and it looks great on a lot of people.  But I think I’m still a “purist” in how I look at my own brows.  Or maybe resistant, I don’t know.  But it took a long time for me to figure out the right way to fill them in so they didn’t look strange.

I’ve shaped my own eyebrows ever since I was in high school.  I’m no stranger to a pair of tweezers.  The one time someone else ever did my brows, was for my best friend’s wedding in 2009.  NEVER AGAIN.  I don’t know what it was about someone other than me tweezing my eyebrows but it was painful, so I’m probably never letting anyone else touch them again.  I recently bought some of those little eyebrow shapers, you know the ones:

I’d see them every time I was at the checkout in a beauty supply store, and one day, I finally decided to buy a pack. Then I went to YouTube and looked up how to use them.  It was like magic, I LOVE these things.  Granted, I will still for the most part tweeze the stray hairs on my brow bone area, but having a way to shape the top of my brows, just tickled me.  So it suffices to say that I’ve upped my brow game in the last year.

Anyway, there’s no special process to how I do my brows, it’s really quite simple.  But I’ll spill…

That’s it.  That’s literally what I use to do my brows aside from the grooming tools.  The pencil is a dark brown eyeliner pencil by NYC, and a brush from my makeup brush set.  I brush my brows and shape them, and then I lightly fill them in.  If I don’t think it’s quite dark enough, then I’ll go in again.  I don’t outline the brow or anything. I’ve been tempted off and on to try products that are actually for filling in brows, but I guess if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  I think it’s important to slay in whatever way you like best.  So long as you slay, the how doesn’t matter. That’s all for this post, I’ll see you soon!!

My Favorite Things: Nyx Liquid Suede Lip Colors

Since I’ve gotten more into makeup, I’m sure I’m a “late bloomer” on a lot of new stuff, haha.  And I’ve learned quickly that there is ALWAYS something new coming out in the makeup world.  I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to keep up!  Regardless, I thought it’d be fun to shine the spotlight on things I have, and share how they look and what I think of them.  Money is tight for me at the moment, so I’m focusing on things I already own, but as I’m able, hopefully I can talk about newer products as I’m able to get them.

I found Nyx I think back in 2013 or 2014, I think.I found the brand at a beauty supply store that I like to frequent, and decided to try out some of their stuff.  Over time I learned that they are a popular brand on the more affordable but good quality side of the makeup scale. Last year, I got three of their Liquid Suede lip colors. The first one I want to talk about is my most favorite, it’s a shade called Cherry Skies.

I ADORE this shade.  If they ever stop making it, I’m going to cry. I wear it often, as evidenced in a few selfies:

Oh yes, um…  I like making silly faces.  Forgot to mention that.  What is life without derpy selfies?  As a another side note, I made those floral cat ears, life’s too short to not wear cat ears with flowers on them.  Anyway, Cherry Skies is a kind of matte (but not drying) lip color, that makes me feel like a pinup model every time I wear it, especially when paired with winged liner, which I do often.  I found it on an excursion to Ulta with my friend Jess, she got it as well.  I’d been looking for just a nice red lip color, and this is everything I ever wanted.  Sadly, it’s not really kiss or smudge proof, it does have to be reapplied after eating or drinking after a certain point, but I wouldn’t say that it wears off easily.  But out of all the lip colors I have, this one gets worn the most, second to an LA Girl lip color I have.  I usually wear Cherry Skies when I’ve got somewhat neutral eye makeup on.

The other two shades I have are on the wilder side.  I’ve been trying to experiment more and more with colors.  I get tired of playing it safe, and as I’ve mentioned before, I love bright colors.  The names of these two shades are Amethyst and Pink Lust.

I love both of these colors, but I’d say that Amethyst is my favorite between them.  Pink Lust is VERY bright, and I haven’t decided yet if it’s a color I can really pull off.  But, here are each of the colors, on me:

All in all, I would buy this particular line of lip colors, again.  As much as I wear Cherry Skies, I’ll need a replacement eventually, hahaha.  They’re pretty, and comfy, and have pretty good coverage.  The streakiest of the three I have is probably Pink lust, but it can be evened out.  I have no doubt I’ll be trying looks with Pink Lust and Amethyst in the future, as well.

That’s all for now, I’ll see you next time!

Deep Submerge: Sailor Neptune Inspired Makeup

Last night, I went to one of the theaters here in Raleigh for a screening of the Sailor Moon R movie!  This event happened in different places on different days all around the country, I’m SO happy that I was able to go!  It was a marvelous time, and I had an awesome time with friends!!  One does not simply go to an event like this and not cosplay, even at least a little, so I decided I was going to do a casual Michiru Kaiou, a.k.a. Sailor Neptune for the event.

I was originally going to do a neutral eye look, but I changed my mind and decided to something a little more colorful.  I went for a halo eye, with blues and greens.  I’ll have to remember this look, because it would be great for something mermaid inspired!  I used a few shades from a very large Elf palette, and one of the UD Spectrum shadows.

I’ve singled out the colors I used from the Elf palette.

First I started off taking the dark blue (outlined in red) into my crease.  I wanted to make sure I was very precise with applying it, because it’s such a dark color.  Then I blended it out within an inch of its life. I didn’t bother with any kind of transition color, this time around.

Next, I went in on the opposite sides of my lid with a slightly lighter blue (outlined in purple), and blended it.

And then in the center of my lid, I took a mixture of two green shades (in pink outline) and applied them.  I started off with the green on the right, but it didn’t seem like it was quite what I was hoping for, so I used the one beside it to beef up the color a little bit.

For a little extra oomph, I dabbed a finger into the color Mean from the UD Full Spectrum and patted a little bit over top of the other greens for some added depth.

Somehow during the process, I ended up with some of the shadow from my top lid, on my lower lash line near my inner corner.  I tried to make sure I tapped my brushes to avoid fallout, but there must have been some, anyway.  I wiped away what was under my eyes, but my lower lash line looked like I had done it on purpose, so I just went with it, haha.  I went back in with an angled liner brush and lined the rest of my lower lash line with the dark blue that I used in my crease.  Then I used a felt tip liner pen to do some winged liner.

I colored my eyebrows with a Nyx retractable eyeliner, in the color Aqua Green (pictured above).  I originally bought this liner for my Morrigan Aensland cosplay, it matched my wig PERFECTLY.

For lashes, I used these:

Over the summer, I went on a rather large falsie binge.  I’ve got a drawer full of various styles (which I’ll show one day).  These don’t have a name, and I have no idea who they are by, I ordered them on ebay, and they came from overseas.  This is the first time I have ever worn them, but I really like them!  I chose this style because I felt they had an anime look to them, which is what I wanted.

The wig I’m wearing, came from Arda Wigs (**Side note:  I realized yesterday that when I included links in my posts, I was accidentally doing something that made them link back to my page instead of going to the intended site, I have fixed this problem in all of my previous blog posts**), it’s the “Matilda” wig in the color Teal, I believe.  I bought this wig along with some extra wefts for a Gothic Sailor Neptune cosplay that I hope to complete this year.  For the time being, I use it as my current Neptune wig, but I intend on getting another one, as this one will eventually be styled in a specific way.  Anywho, this was the finished result!

Thanks for reading, I’ll see you soon!!

Urban Decay Full Spectrum Palette: Swatches & Makeup Looks

I’m kind of a noob, sorry guys.  It hit me that I should have included swatches from the Full Spectrum in my other post about it, so consider this Part 2 of the spotlight on this beauty.  I’m also going to talk about the two looks I’ve done with this palette, so far.  I like the way this palette is set up.  It has jewel tones on the first row, electric colors on the middle row, and pastel-like colors on the last row.  All of my swatches are in order of how they appear in the palette.

I did notice that Gossip, has some fallout, so I’ve tried to be careful with that one.  Some of the shades did take some building, but I can’t speculate on whether it’s the formula of those particular shades, or maybe that they show up a little better on lighter skin tones.  I was able to build them nicely, however.  Most of these seem to have a satin/pearl finish or two-toned with glitter.  My favorite shades in this palette would have to be the entire column of green shades ( Hundred, Hatter, and Mean), as well as Metamorphosis, which is a GORGEOUS kind of Periwinkle blue with green glitter.  I had to think about this, because pink and purple are my top two favorite colors.  But I’ve been increasingly drawn to the color green in the last year.  Bump, which is the very last shade in the palette, is a pure matte white.  I was surprised at how well it showed up on me, I have some white shadows in other palettes that don’t give that kind of payoff.  Now, let’s get on to what I’ve done with some of these!

The first look I did, comes from one of my Pinterest boards.  I stay on Pinterest for HOURS, pinning various things.  Since I got this palette, I’ve been looking at bright color eye looks.  Anyway, I was having kind of a crappy day (for no particular reason) and decided I wanted to be a unicorn.  I’ve also highlighted the colors I used in this palette for each look.

I started with using Paranoia in my crease and blending it upward.  Then using a thinner brush, I took Gossip in my crease as well, and tried to do a slight gradient with it, blending it in to Paranoia.

Next, I took Bump onto my lid, and put it over half of my lid, and then went in with  Delirious on the other half.  Once I blended those, I went over Bump with Iced, and Delirious with Sketch.

Next, I lined my lower lash line with Metamorphosis, and used Iced one more time in my inner corner.

The second look I did, was something I saw on YouTube.  I wanted to see what other looks people were creating with this palette, and I came across one that I really liked.  The YouTuber goes by the name Syos world, and though I’m including a photo of the colors used, you can watch her video here to see her do swatches as well as a visual tutorial on the eye look.   Here’s how it turned out on me:

There will DEFINITELY be more looks coming from this palette, I’m seriously in love with it!  And now that we’re moving toward spring, I’ll have lots of bright looks to conjure up.  This is my first real experience with any of Urban Decay’s shadows (aside from playing with them when I’ve gone into Ulta), and I would say that I’ve become a fan.  That’s all for now, I’ll see you soon!

Moon Prism Power: My Sailor Moon Jewelry Collection

Sailor Moon is probably my number one favorite anime series.  I discovered it when I was either 12 or 13, and I had no idea what I was watching.  There was a talking cat with a crescent moon on its forehead, and it sounded like an English nanny while talking about a Moon Princess.  I watched it throughout high school when it would air on Toonami (memba that??), and I’ve just loved it.  They brought the series back in 2014 (called Sailor Moon Crystal), and with it came lots of new merchandise, which made me pretty excited. bd8m3_f-thumbnail-100-0

Now that the series is back on the scene, I’ve been doing my best to build a collection of wearables and collectibles.  I love incorporating them into every day wear.  My jewelry collection is small at the moment, but it’s growing, so let’s take a look at my current pieces.  These are what I currently own.

Silhouette Earrings

I got these from a seller on Etsy by the name of Foxy Funk Designs.  I really wanted some holographic silhouette earrings but I think all of the ones I found were overseas, and I was impatient.  So I went with my second choice of pink, and I will probably still end up getting holographic ones at some point.  These earrings are a nice size, neither too big or too little.  The cutting looks pretty precise, too.  You can find Foxy Funk Designs here.

Sailor Neptune Transformation Wand Necklace & Communicator Bracelet

My favorite sailor scout is Sailor Neptune.  She’s classy, casual, musical, and rather sophisticated.  Teal is also one of my favorite colors.  Both of these came from a site called Kuma Crafts, you can visit them here.  My friend Allison introduced me to them, and she also gave me the communicator bracelet.  I bought the transformation wand as a birthday gift to myself, last year.  I love their jewelry, it’s so whimsical.  I’m not sure that the bracelet is intended to be associated with Sailor Neptune, but I chose it because the color seemed to fit.  The jewelry is very well made, and sparkly.  There are necklaces for the other scouts wands, as well as Sailor Moon’s.  If you’re a fan of the series like I am, I’m sure you’ll realize how much trouble your wallet is about to be in…  I apologize.

Fairy Kitty Necklace

This is another piece by Kuma Crafts, and I love it SO MUCH.  It’s not specifically Sailor Moon related, but let’s face it, when you see a cat with a crescent moon on its forehead, you know who you’re reminded of.  It has a little rhinestone crescent moon on its forehead, and the wings are iridescent.  It’s hard to not feel magical when you have a fairy kitty necklace on.

Moon Wand Necklace

This little cutie came from eBay. I don’t know the specific seller, but I’m sure a search for sailor moon jewelry will turn it up.  It’s made of metal, and wasn’t very expensive.  For the price (which I think was around $5) I was impressed.  This one did come from overseas and took a little bit to get to me, but I was not disappointed.

I have a love for novelty jewelry, and I know that my collection is only going to grow as time goes on.  But I thought it would be fun to share some of my favorite Sailor Moon things.  My general style interests are all across the board, but I have a love of kawaii jewelry like this, video game inspired pieces (which will be a future blog post), and just everything.  I’ve always had a hard time putting myself into one specific category, anyway.  Anyhow, that’s all I’ve got for this post.  I’ll be back soon!
